Staycation...

When The Farmer hurt his back, our plans for a road trip vacation were scrapped. Hours of riding in the car didn't sound like fun...Vacationing with a guy whose back hurt from hours of riding in the car didn't sound like fun...

But that's okay. We're flexible...and now that the big farming projects are done, it's easy to relax in the comfort of our own home, with our own familiar bed, and hard chairs for back support...

This week, The Farmer is feeling pretty much mended...Should we get in the car and drive away somewhere? Hmmm...the problem with this scenario is that we have too few days to go where we had hoped...only enough time to go where we have gone before...and the weather was too gorgeous to stay cooped up in a car for hours...

We decided to day-trip and stay-cation. So Tuesday, we headed off to The Big City. We decided to do something that we had NEVER done before: go to Pike Place Market!! Wild! Crazy! Risky for hickish types!!! And, yes, it is pathetic that we had never been there before.

Because we would be in the wilds of The Big City, I decided to leave my new DSLR at home...so I only have cell phone pics of our adventures...
The famous flying fish place...No, I didn't ask them to throw anything over my head...I was content to watch other people enjoy this smelly experience...

I loved all the fruit & vegetable displays!

And the flowers!! My goal was to bring home a bouquet...

Delicious clam chowder for lunch...

...with a view!!

We walked down to the waterfront...Perfect day for it!

Beautiful sun sparkling off the water...

Views of downtown from the waterfront...

We ran back into the market to get my coveted bouquet!!

Then we went to explore Queen Anne Hill -- never been there either...
I didn't get any pictures of the quaint houses, but did attempt a shot of the view down the hill to Seattle proper...Imagine having this view out your window -- every day!

Then we made our way to the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, where boats are lowered or raised between Lake Washington and Puget Sound...Lovely old structures, interesting engineering -- and we got to see a small boat go from Salmon Bay out into the Sound.

A marvel of engineering of their day, and beyond...
By the time we were done enjoying our visit there, it was, of course, rush hour. What to do? What to do?

The appropriate solution seemed to be to go to dinner at Anthony's at Shilshole Bay, where we enjoyed watching the sun set at our table with the water view...

It just seemed like the responsible thing to do.
And we like being responsible whenever and however we can.

I love a day in the big city. I haven't been to Pike's Place in years...maybe this winter.

I like that you're so responsible. I knew that I liked you for a reason! :)

funny..how we always want to go somewhere FAR away for a vacation when we have so many wonderful places right here that are barely discovered! :)

One musn't waste a view - that's why God made them! Nothing like a sunset on the water! I haven't been to Pikes Place in years - but it's always fun! See you're never too old to do something new!
