Goodbye Garden...

I cleaned up the garden today; picked the pumpkins and composted the vines. Put the last two cukes in the fridge. Hung the bean trellis in the shed. The only things left are the carrots, which will be harvested as we go along, and two pepper plants. I'm waiting for the peppers on one to turn red, and on the other, to size up.

My pepper plants saved my garden investment this year. Last week I picked all the Anaheims and the greens, and had a bountiful harvest! I think the pepper harvest paid for my seed for the whole garden!

I chopped up all the green peppers and put them in the freezer.

Then I did some online research about what to do with Anaheims, and roasted them on the grill.
I wasn't exactly sure I would know when they were done, but eventually, you could see the flesh of the peppers turn to an olive green color when they were cooked and ready...and the blackened skin was fine. It didn't mean the flesh was burned.

Then I spread them out on a cookie sheet and put them in the freezer overnight.

The next day, I bagged them up. (Okay, I forgot about them, so they were in the freezer for 2 days...) Now I have two big bags of Anaheim peppers from which I can pull out a couple to use for any recipes that call for green chilies. I didn't peel them because my online source said they are easier to peel after they have thawed. I've already used them in a recipe, and they tasted great! Yeehaw!!

Now if I can just get the other peppers to turn red, my garden venture will end in the black.

I feel so fulfilled...

And glad to be done gardening!

I am so glad I planted my peppers in pots and was able to move them into the greenhouse a couple weeks ago, otherwise I think I would lose them. I only have a few peppers growing on the vine but it's progress! made fresh cream of tomato soup the other night with some of the tom's--- oh my goodness!!!

I had no idea that you could actually roast peppers and then freeze them... good to know!
